Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) received a somewhat less-than-enthusiastic reception from some protesters when he expressed his support for the Defense of Marriage Act while addressing a crowd of about 350 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on Monday.

At the completion of Cantor remarks, the Virginia congressman was asked: “How do you reconcile your position with states rights and the Constitution and your support of the Defense of Marriage Act?”

“I’ve always been very straightforward about this. I just believe in traditional marriage between a man and a woman,” said Cantor.

What came next may have been of little surprise to anyone, but believe it or not, Cantor was booed from several members of the audience. Some even protested by turning their backs to him with messages taped to the back of their clothing, saying, “Shame on you Eric Cantor.”
