Condoleezza Rice, who served as Secretary of State under President George W. Bush, is giving GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain some unsolicited and free advice: “Don’t play the race card” in what looks like a game of high stakes poker with the national media.

“I actually am someone who doesn’t believe in playing the race card on either side,” Rice said in an interview on CBS’ “The Early Show” that aired on Wednesday. I’ve seen it played, by the way, on the other side quite a lot too. And it’s not good for the country.”

Cain has been under intense pressure since Monday when Politico wrote a story saying that two former female employees who worked under him when he was the head of the National Restaurant Association had left the group with a severance package and confidentially clause in an agreement over sexual harassment charges levied at Cain.

Cain initially denied any knowledge of the incidents, but has slowly recovered is memory and is now recalling tidbits of information as the story continues to unfold.
